Key Stage 1 and 2 consists of all our Year 1 through to Year 6 classes. There are two or three parallel classes per year group. Our aim is to create a safe, happy and stimulating learning environment in which the students' academic, social and creative aspects are all developed.
The Curriculum
The aim of the National Curriculum of England is to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and achieve. It is an internationally recognised curriculum which provides continuity and progression throughout the whole Primary and Secondary school and has established standards. The school makes some adaptations to the curriculum in order to internationalise it and ensure its relevance to our students and our situation here in Thailand.
All subjects, with the exception of Languages other than English (LOTE) and Thai Culture for Thai students are taught in English.
Bangkok Prep follows the Thailand Ministry of Education directives related to Thai Language and Thai culture lessons.
Teachers
In the Primary school there is an enthusiastic and committed team of teachers who are all experienced and qualified. There are specialist teachers for P.E., Swimming, Music, English as an Additional Language, Special Educational Needs, Thai Language, Mandarin, French and Thai Culture. The teachers have a good rapport with the students which relaxes them and ensures that they are in the best frame of mind to learn and contribute within the class.
Positive Behaviour
Children are encouraged to act in appropriate and responsible way at all times. The "Golden Rules" which have been developed by the students are displayed around the school and act as a reminder of the behaviour expected. Children are motivated by praise and encouragement and our House system is seen as another means of promoting positive behaviour through the giving of house points. Our students are encouraged to act as good role models for one another and their involvement in the students council and as House Captains is seen in a very positive light and is something that other students can aspire to.
Whole Child
Education is seen in its widest context and we believe that it is important to develop children intellectually, socially, physically, creatively and morally. We want to support students in achieving their potential in all aspects of the direct and the hidden curriculum. We are particularly keen to motivate students to develop a positive attitude towards personal and social responsibility. A number of community service links and environmental projects are encouraged across the school.
We have a strong after-school programme where a large range of activities are offered from sports to arts, from academic to community service. There are plenty of internal school sporting events but there are also U9 and U11 teams which compete in the TISAC tournaments for basketball, football, athletics, badminton and swimming.
Each year group will go on educational trips to help reinforce specific aspects of the curriculum that are learning about. Residential trips are very popular and are organised for student from Year 4 to Year 6, these trips give the students the opportunity to apply and further their knowledge and understanding in a completely different setting. One of the main benefits of these residential trips is with regard to the social and emotional development of the students as it helps them to forge social relationships with both friends and teachers and gain in both independence and confidence
Parents as Partners
We believe that parents have a very important role to play in the education of their children and think that the best academic results are achieved when the school, the parents and the student all work together to try and achieve clearly stated common goals. Students from Year 3 to Year 6 have home school agreements; there are communication books for all students in the school, curriculum summaries are given out and there are workshops for parents. Parents’ opinions are valued and there are opinions are sought on numerous occasions. There is a very active Friends of Bangkok Prep Parents association and parents get involved in our special days and events. There are regular parent/teacher conferences and two reports a year are issued so that parents are fully informed about the progress of their child and their targets for improvement.
International-Mindedness
Bangkok International Preparatory & Secondary School is very proud of its international outlook to education and we look at ways of incorporating international relevance into our curriculum. 34 nationalities are represented in our school and we like to celebrate our cultural diversity in a range of events and activities that we set up during the course of the year. Students will develop their own sense of identity whilst recognising and empathising with other cultures, traditions and beliefs. Our aim is to educate our students so that they will be able to take their place as participating, responsible adults who have a respect for universal human rights in which ever cultural society they may find themselves in the future.
The Bangkok Prep Student
Our aspiration is that Bangkok Prep students will enjoy their school life and be motivated enough to participate in all aspects of the school to the best of their ability. We hope that they will learn to work collaboratively with their peers while also having the ability to work independently when necessary. They will be happy, confident and have high self esteem so that they feel ready and able to take on any challenge that is placed before them. Our goal is that the students' time at Bangkok International Preparatory & Secondary School is successful, productive, profitable and memorable.
