Primary School Drama & Performing Arts

The emphasis on Drama in the Primary curriculum has increased in recent years. As part of the New Literacy framework an increased provision for Speaking and Listening was highlighted and Drama is an excellent way of promoting both speaking and listening. All classes from Years 1 to 6 are timetabled for one lesson of drama a week. The exciting aspect about drama is that it can take many forms. At Bangkok Prep we often see:

  • paired work
  • mimes
  • photo stories
  • radio plays
  • hot seating
  • scenarios
  • improvisations
  • sketches
  • plays

The benefits of Drama are manifold. Students develop their:

  • language and communication skill
  • confidence
  • ability to perform in front of an audience
  • creativity

Plus there is the added bonus of ENJOYMENT. Students thrive on these dramatic experiences and it is in keeping with our holistic approach to education.

There are also big productions that take place twice a year. There is one in December which involves all the Early Years and Key Stage 1 students and one in June which involves the majority of Key Stage 2 students.

Secondary School Drama & Performing Arts

Drama classes in Key Stage 3 are about exploring body movements and sounds. As in music, students will study many different areas of drama, including performance, theory, history, and ‘behind the scenes’ as well as observing and critiquing. Drama students are expected to participate fully in every activity and performance.

Drama in Key Stage 4 is an IGCSE examinable subject. Students are expected to develop their critical thinking skills to think outside the box when reading, creating, and performing drama. Students will perform regularly in classes, and learn all about the theory behind creating drama. Coursework includes solo and group performances, script studies, and written responses.
